What is ESOS?

 

The UK Government have established The Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme Regulations 2014 ("ESOS"), a mandatory energy assessment scheme for UK large undertakings, which implements Article 8 (4-6) of the EU Efficiency Directive (2012/27/EU).

 

If you satisfy the qualification criteria on the qualification date, your organisation, or another organisation in your corporate group structure must comply or face penalties.

 

ESOS is not just a a regulation requiring mandatory compliance but a true opportunity to have your energy consumption, costs, projects and supply chain reviewed and assessed for opportunities to reduce your costs and consumption.

More than just compliance

 

ESOS's true interpretation is not to solely review the plant and fittings that you have installed in your building, or whether it is time your organisation upgraded some of your fleet, but to have a holistic review of all relationships, stakeholders and suppliers.

Our experience in facilities management outsourced services on both the client and supplier side gives us a unique perspective on where savings can be realised and efficiencies gained. We review both mechanical and engineering solutions and your supply chain.

 

The Regulations require your organisation to appoint at least one Lead ESOS Assessor to review the ESOS Assessment and determine if the ESOS Assessment meet the requirements of the Regulations. The Lead Assessor must be approved by a professional body and their name listed on the relevant approved register.

 

Our Lead ESOS Assessors are approved by The Energy Managers Association.

 

Compliance phases

 

At present, there are 3 compliance phases of ESOS, with the 4th to be determined. Phase 1 is now completed. The table below outlines the key dates for qualification and compliance:
